TALK: Malay Theatre Traditions: Mak Yong and Wayang Kelantan

Mak yong (dance drama) and wayang kelantan (shadow puppetry) are two forms of Malay theatre traditions that originated in the culturally rich state of Kelantan. They are deemed intangible cultural heritages of Malaysia, especially mak yong, which has gained international recognition by UNESCO.

In this talk, the artists will discuss mak yong and wayang kelantan performance practices in preparation for their public performance that will be presented on Sunday, April 10th, 4:00 p.m. at East-West Center, Keoni Auditorium, Hawai‘i IMIN International Conference Center, 1777 East-West Road.
