Exoplanet Naming Ceremony plus Two Astronomy Lectures for the Public

At 7:00pm, this public event will begin with an announcement by the IAU of the beginning of the public voting for the NameExoWorlds contest, which the IAU established to involve the public in the selection of names for some newly discovered exoplanets--planets around other stars. The voting will be initiated at this special ceremony that will precede the two scientific talks.
Dr. Gunther Hasinger, director of the UH Institute for Astronomy, will speak on "The Development of Modern Astronomy in Hawai‘i" from 7:30 pm to 8:15 pm. Then Dr. Andrea Ghez of UCLA will speak on "The Black Hole in the Galactic Center" from 8:15 pm to 9:00 pm.
These public lectures are held as part of the International Astronomical Union General Assembly.
