Rongoa translates to medicine or remedy within the Maori world view, and Kai is the very essence of food in which we eat. Medicinal kai that is nourishing yet delicious takes us back to a space of old, where simple cooking was at the heart of any village. Indigenous Nutrition is purely listening to one’s body and knowing how to fuel it in order to gain optimum energy, without compromising one’s health. Western food is no good for us, yet it's force fed to our communities. Educating ourselves and building an intimate relationship with our kai is the biggest form of healing there is. We live in a world where time seems to dominate as we push the boundaries to keep up with the demands of modern day living, work and systems. Neglecting not only ourselves, but our families too! If our families are to be healthy, our diet needs to guide that health. Amiria is a Maori healing student and practitioner, with this workshop focusing on a dish she grew up cooking with her mamma. Corn Fritter stack and a fresh watercress and avocado salad, with fresh citrus of lime. Join us for a morning of exploration with a fresh, summer meal all the way from New Zealand. Instructor: Amiria Raumati. Class fee: $25. Registration required.
