One hundred years after Mexico's independence from Spain, Halley's Comet appeared. Initially it was greeted as a good omen and proof that God had bestowed His blessings upon the Díaz administration. When the revolution broke out later in 1910, it soon was interpreted as a disastrous foreboding.
