Ramsar World Wetlands Day 2019

February 23, 9:00am - 2:00pm
Kailua United Methodist Church, 1110 Kailua Road, Kailua

The theme for 2019 is Wetlands and Climate Change. What does climate change mean for the wetlands of the Kailua ahupua‘a, including Kawainui, Hāmākua, Ka‘elepulu, and Nu‘upia? What can we do to offset the impacts of rising sea level on these wetlands? We will explore these topics in our presentations, tours, and exhibits.

Join us as we celebrate Kawainui and Hāmākua, declared a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 2005. We invite you to visit and learn more about these wetlands, the birds and plants that live here, and the cultural history and traditions that continue in this special place.
