Bollywood Mondays: 'Hindi Medium' (2017)

November 19, 2:30pm - 5:00pm
Mānoa Campus, Marine Sciences Building Room 100

In the class-conscious city of Delhi, social mobility is reliant on several factors: family connections, wealth, style, education, and language. 'Hindi Medium' is a comedy with a message, addressing the difficulties parents must navigate in a cutthroat educational landscape with a chasm between good and poor schools.

The brilliant Irrfan Khan plays a father and Old Delhi shopkeeper who struggles to gain acceptance in the city's snooty middle class due to his difficulty in speaking English. Pakistani actress Saba Qamar is cast as his wife, much more fluent and stylish than her husband, but who must go along with the couple's madcap and desperate schemes to get their daughter placed in a good school.

This is the eleventh movie in the 16th UH Bollywood film series, running on occasional Monday afternoons this fall. For a copy of the film series schedule for the semester, please see the contact information below.
