Shidler College of Business Dean Vance Roley and PACE Executive Director Susan Yamada are pleased to host a special Kipapa i ke Ala lecture, featuring Walter A. Dods, Jr.

Dods retired as chairman of the Board of First Hawaiian Bank in 2008. He currently serves as chairman of Matson, Inc., and as trustee to the Estate of Samuel Mills Damon. He continues to serve on many corporate and civic boards.

In this presentation, Dods will be interviewed by PACE Executive Director Susan Yamada. Yamada will address Walter's new book entitled, "Yes! A Memoir of Modern Hawaii" and discuss his interesting path to business success in Hawaii.

The lecture will be held at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii’s Mānoa Grand Ballroom. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m., with the lecture starting at 5:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., the audience will be given the chance to pose questions to Dods. Immediately following the lecture, the book will be available for purchase at a discounted price of $10. Dods will also remain after the lecture to meet audience members and sign the book. The lecture is free and open to the public. Attendees should register online at pace.shidler.hawaii.edu/kipapa

The Kīpapa i ke Ala Lecture Series was created in 2001 to help us understand how our state may benefit from the fast-paced changes in the worldwide marketplace. Kīpapa i ke Ala translates into “paving the way,” which is a befitting title for the lectures that bring the best and brightest from the world of international business to share their knowledge with students, faculty and members of the greater Hawai‘i community. The lecture series is generously funded by John and Franci Davidson and the Emmett R. Quady Foundation. For more about these lectures, visit www.shidler.hawaii.edu/kipapa
