12-Month SSH per FTE Instructional Faculty
Definition:
  • SSH is the student semester hours, also referred to as instructional activity, during a 12-month instructional period (July 1 to June 30). The sum of undergraduate and graduate institutional activity is used to determine the SSH. The data used for this calculation is collected from the IPEDS 12-month Enrollment Survey.
    • Note that the graduate total includes professional practice for years prior to AY 2002-03 and for AY 2009-10 to AY 2010-11. For all other years professional practice SSH are excluded.
  • Instructional faculty includes a faculty whose primary focus is instruction and is included in the FTE Instructional Faculty calculation (see details below). The data used for this calculation is collected from the IPEDS Human Resources Survey.
    • FTE Faculty is the full-time equivalent instructional faculty, as per employment status in the fall semester. Part-time instructional faculty are assigned a constant equivalency value per full-time instructional faculty ( 1/3 or 0.333). The calculation for determining FTE Faculty is as follows: (full-time faculty + (part-time faculty / 3). The data used for this calculation is collected from the IPEDS Human Resources Survey.
