Laulima Updated to Sakai 19.6
Below is a list of some of the changes on the Laulima system after upgrading from Sakai 12.7 to 19.5. (12/27/20)
NOTE: This page may be updated periodically.
Laulima updated to version 19.6 (03/21/21)
User interface slightly rearranged:
Some interface elements have changed in Sakai 19.
- When not logged in, you will need to choose between UH Login (those with UH usernames) or Guest Login (accounts using external email accounts to log in)
- There are new "bullhorn" icons near the top of the page. These are for alerts (eg. when announcements are created in a site you are associated with, a new assignment is posted or graded, or social connections are updated, etc.)
- Several tools have a new look with items in slightly different places
Site Info Tool (for instructors/maintainers)
- The list of participants is no longer on the main Site Info screen, there is a "Manage Participants" tab for that function now and there is also a separate "Edit Site Information" tab.
- You can arrange the order of the "widgets" that show the information from certain tools (eg. Announcements, Calendar) on the right side of the page via the "Manage Overview" tab (also available on the site's Overview page)
Assignments Tool
- Option to send reminder email to students 1 day before due (Instructors)
New! Gradebook Tool
- There is a new Gradebook tool separate from Gradebook Classic named Gradebook; the interface is different from the classic counterpart
- For items created within the Gradebook, you can edit scores directly in the Grades view (Instructors)
- You cannot submit grades to Banner via the new Gradebook (Instructors), but you can still upload grades via Gradebook Classic
Roster Tool
- New layout options
Resources Tool
- Single upload limit upgraded from 250MB to 300MB (01/31/21)
New! Rubrics Tool (New Tool)
- Allows instructors to create grading rubrics for use in association with tools such as Assignments, Forums, and Tests & Quizzes.
Tests & Quizzes Tool
- New interface. To create a new assessment, click the "Add" tab (Instructors)
- There is no longer " Working Copies" and "Published Copies" tabs, rather tests have a "draft" status (Instructors)
- To remove an assessment, check the box to the right of the test and click the "Remove Selected" button at the bottom of the page
Other
- Some tools (Assignments, Tests and Surveys; Discussion and Private Messages) do not see the new Gradebook. Instructors can add Gradebook Classic (and hide it if that is what they prefer) to give those tools the ability to send grades to the new Gradebook. We are looking into a fix for this (01-19-21). Update: This issue should be resolved (01/31/21)
- Laulima front page, Request Assistance is now listed as Request Site.
- MathML is no longer available in the editor due to its dependence on Adobe Flash. We are looking into alternatives.
- Some html attributes associated with tables are being deprecated including align, bgcolor, borders, cellpadding, and more. You might be able to manually add these via the source html or on the table properties add in some rules in the Advance tab, but the interface may not show the (previously) standard options for now.
