English Code-switching in Korean Society: Reflection of TESL
This presentation is about code-switching between Korean and English in Korean society. This will be specified by data collected and analyzed by Sookmyung TESL major students. The main point that emerges is the contradictory perceptions and practices of Koreans toward code-switching. Koreans tend to use English frequently in written forms, such as song lyrics or print advertisements, but tend to have strong negative feelings about the use of English in spoken forms. The presentation examines how general societal norms are reflected in but also changed through the experience of the TESL English-medium major.
