Jay Tanaka has been selected to receive a Bilinski Research Award and a Bilinski Dissertation Fellowship to carry out research on the ways that language educators learn to teach. He traveled to Thailand with a cohort of graduate students from the Department of SLS and documented their experiences as they prepared for and then taught students English as a foreign language at Ubon Ratchathani University for two months. Jay is interested in identifying how teachers’ beliefs and knowledge informs their teaching practices, and how their teaching practices can in turn inform their beliefs about how to best serve their students.
