The Teaching SLS Minor
The SLS Language Teaching Minor is for students with an interest in language teaching and learning and want to deepen their expertise and qualifications for a language teaching career.
The requirements and electives for the SLS Teaching Minor total 18 credits. Listed below are the core and elective courses for the teaching minor. This minor features a "catered menu" of electives to help students strengthen their understanding of language pedagogy to supplement the required courses in language teaching and learning.
Teaching Minor Requirements (9 credits/3 courses):
- SLS 301 - Basic Language Concepts
- SLS 302 - Second Language Learning (W)*
- SLS 303 - Second Language Teaching
Teaching Minor Electives (9 credits/3 courses):
- SLS 311 - Second Language Testing
- SLS 312 - Second Language Teaching: Reading & Writing (O)
- SLS 313 - Second Language Teaching: Listening & Speaking (O)
- SLS 418 - Instructional Media (O, W)
- SLS 460 - English Phonology (DS, O)
- SLS 475 - Practicum for Future Language Professionals
- SLS 480-P - Second Language Pedagogy (offered in Spring semesters)

*SLS 302 is a prerequisite for most elective courses. 100-200 level classes do not count towards the Minor, but are highly recommended as a foundation
