This course explores task-based approaches to second/foreign language learning and teaching. We will review the theoretical underpinnings for task-based language learning and the key components of task-based program design. Next, we will explore the process of developing and empirically testing task-based materials, including task complexity, sequencing, and assessment. We will discuss practical classroom considerations for the use/implementation of tasks in various instructional contexts, including the use of TBLT for endangered languages and technology-mediated environments. In addition, we will discuss teacher perspectives and teacher training.
