611 Second Language Testing

Second language (L2) assessment involves the evaluation of L2 knowledge, skills, or abilities for a specified purpose, ranging from deciding which vocabulary to review in a language class to making university admissions decisions. Assessments can include formal tests, a major focus in this course, as well as alternatives such as self-assessments, projects, and portfolios. In this course, students will become well-versed in the foundations of L2 assessment and gain experience developing and evaluating assessments. Students will also learn Classical Test Theory and other basic quantitative techniques for analyzing assessment data (no previous quantitative training is required).
