How Do We Define Faith?

THURSDAY,
OCTOBER 23, 2025
7:30-9:00PM

Dr. Tamara Albertini, Department Chair and Professor of Philosophy at the University of Hawai’i
at Manoa, will be a panelist on KĀKOU: Hawai’i’s Town Hall. KĀKOU: Hawai’i’s Town Hall is a public affairs forum presented by PBS Hawai’i which is televised statewide and streamed live.

Faith is defined different ways by different people. For many, some might say most, it is rooted in religion but it is found also in culture, family, community and tradition. The basic definition of the word is also varied and includes loyalty, trust, a strong conviction to something, hope, purpose, devotion and guidance. The list goes on. Faith can keep us grounded through good times and challenging times. How often have we asked any of the following questions? Why do we have faith? What role does it play in our society? Is it something that comes naturally or does it need to be cultivated? What does it mean to lose faith?
