What We Do

The Student Data Oversight Committee (SDOC), per Executive Policy, EP 2.215 Institutional Data Governance, is a Data Governance Committee subcommittee focused on improving data quality and access and providing guidance on future directions, priorities, and uses of student Institutional Data Systems. The SDOC has the authority to make decisions on student data issues and may recommend to the DGC policies and principles on data management and use.  SDOC is composed of the systemwide academic officers, registrars, bursars, and representatives from Banner, STAR, academic technologies, data governance, information security and institutional research.

SDOC manages the principles for program name, program description, the U.S. Department of Education’s Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code assignment, and compliance with the following university policies.

  • Regents Policy RP 5.201 –  Instructional Programs
  • Executive Policy 5.201 –  Approval of New Academic Programs and Review of Provisional Academic Programs
  • Executive Policy 5.205 –  Academic Minors and Certificates
  • UHCCP 5.203 – Program Credentials: Degrees and Certificates

The committee has made decisions and taken action on systemwide issues such as the renaming and reclassification of program majors, prioritizing and reducing student holds, expanding student application portals, streamlining the processing of student payments, handling the processing of distance education programs, and ensuring best practices in data governance and information security.
