In the summer of 2021, the General Education Redesign team will convene for one intensive month of research, discussion, development and intellectual exchange, culminating in a final General Education Redesign Proposal that the UH System family of campuses and departments will be able to stand behind with confidence and enthusiasm. These four weeks will involve reviewing everything from industry standard practices to innovative modern approaches to General Education pedagogy. Design team members will collaborate on a draft that draws from the best, most effective, and most relevant strategies and competencies, together producing the first draft for the first University of Hawaiʻi General Education refresh in over 20 years
To tackle this challenge, we solicited applications via open email invitation (PDF) to staff, faculty and students within the UH systems. Final design team members were selected from the pool of diverse men and women applicants from all varieties of disciplines and expertise. We know that to design a new product that fully serves the needs of our entire body of UH General Education program students, we will need representatives from all manner of areas and knowledge bases in order to facilitate a meaningful, holistic and interdisciplinary exchange.
