Wendy Hensel will assume the role of UH president on January 1, 2025. A mother of four, she shares her journey, perspectives and values.

Lassner also provided updates on a project labor agreement, the marine education and training center and a community college summer tuition pilot program.
“It's been an amazing 47 years, including these last 11 as president. I feel great about what I've done and I feel great about what I'm gonna do next.”
Lassner also honored the UH Mānoa women's soccer team and Professor Joseph Keaweʻaimoku Kaholokula
Lassner also honored UH Cancer Center's Lang Wu, the UH nominee for state employee of the year, and provided updates on enrollment for fall 2024 and extramural funding for the current fiscal year.
The finalists, Wendy F. Hensel and Julian Vasquez Heilig, will attend an open house and a moderated public forum in each of the four counties.
The finalists will be introduced through open houses and public forums during the weeks of September 23 and September 30 in Maui, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi and Honolulu counties.
There were more than 90 applicants for the position, and the finalists are scheduled to be announced in September.
