According to a poll of UH Professional Assembly, boosting research is crucial to maintaining UH's prestigious R1 status.
An announcement will be made when the meeting is scheduled.
The regents will vote to approve up to 12 candidates for the Presidential Search Advisory Group at a February 16 special presidential search BOR meeting.
The BOR determined how the stakeholder advisory group for the search for the next president of the 10-campus system will be developed.
The BOR is currently in the process of hiring, by January 31, an executive search company.
The new president would begin in fall 2024, replacing current President David Lassner, who announced that he will retire in 2024.

The Board of Regents has set the meeting to select the next university president for June 2, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Information Technology Center on the UH Mānoa campus.
Beginning May 6, finalists for the position of UH System president will be visiting UH campuses statewide throughout the month of May.
