Vares-Lum oversaw the center’s recovery from pandemic lockdowns and worked closely with the institution to implement its first new formal strategic plan in nearly two decades.
The project also aims to advance next generation science education nationwide.
UH West Oʻahu and UH Mānoa’s College of Education will provide scholarships and support to eligible students to eventually teach in high-need areas.
This internship was part of Project Hōkūlani, housed in UH Mānoa’s Center on Disability Studies, College of Education.
Kauaʻi CC will provide clear, culturally responsive pathways for Native Hawaiians to earn careers as high school teachers without having to leave the island.
The award recognizes researchers who have demonstrated excellence in enhancing the educational experience for all learners.
This is the second round of funding for the project called I Paʻa Ka Huewai Pawehe.
