Participation in the Early College initiative, in which Hawaiʻi students can earn college and high school credits while still in high school, increased by 11 percent from 2012 through 2017, according to the College and Career Readiness Indicators Report.
Early College offers the opportunity for students to take UH courses at their high school and earn credit toward their high school graduation and college degree.
The university’s efforts to better prepare incoming freshman for the rigors of college paid off this summer with the summer bridge program attendance at an all time high.
The five-year grant will provide approximately 1,309 additional college credits with a priority going towards first-generation college attendees and low-income high school students.
