Winds reached nearly 100 mph on the summit and heavy rain opened up several large cracks on Maunakea Access Road.
Site work for the decommissioning of the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory was completed in June.
The historic decommissioning of UH Hilo’s Hōkū Keʻa Observatory was completed in May 2024, and the area will be monitored over the next three years.
All individuals working on the project are required to complete cultural training and understand the area’s history and cultural significance.
The decommissioning of Hōkū Keʻa Observatory is set to begin in March and will take about five months to complete.
