Cook selected for NCAA scholarship; 3 Vulcans receive awards

UH Hilo baseball player Mason Cook was selected as one of 46 student-athletes to receive an NCAA Division II 50th Anniversary Scholarship.

Three UH Mānoa baseball players earned second-team All-Big West honors while another four received honorable mention.

UH Mānoa pitcher Randy Abshier capped off his collegiate career by earning Big West Pitcher of the Week honors on May 27.

Cody Min led the Vulcans with a .356 batting average, 63 hits, 29 runs, and .409 on-base percentage.

After spinning five perfect innings out of the bullpen in UH Mānoa's win over CSUN on May 3, Alex Giroux earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors.

Along with the renaming will come planned improvements to the press box.

UH Hilo softball player Victoria Macias and baseball player Arthur Soto were recognized for leading the team with their slugging percentages.

Abshier prevented any hits over the 5.1 innings of play and has matched his career-high strikeouts.

The contest at Francis Wong Stadium on February 28 brought together a crowd of more than 3,200 fans, including local youth baseball players.

The softball team returns with five starters and outfielder Alec Yamauchi makes Third Team pick.
