Dr. Daniel Fischberg, Chief of Palliative Medicine for the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), has been named the 2013 recipient of the Gerald H. Holman AAHPM Distinguished Service Award.
 
The award recognizes outstanding and dedicated service to the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM).
 
Fischberg received the award in New Orleans on March 15, 2013, at the meeting of the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine (AAHPM). Fischberg is the Medical Director for the Pain and Palliative Care Program at The Queen’s Medical Center and serves as the Chief of the Division of Palliative Medicine and a Professor in the Department of Geriatric Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM).
 
More about Dr. Fischberg
Dr. Daniel Fischberg was awarded his PhD in the field of Biomedical Sciences from the City University of New York in 1995. He received his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1996 and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1999. Fischberg subsequently completed a fellowship in Pain and Palliative Care at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center before returning as faculty to Mount Sinai’s Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute.
 
Fischberg holds board certification in Internal Medicine, Pain Medicine, and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He is an EPEC Master Facilitator and a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Fischberg’s educational and research interests include: enhancing education in pain and palliative care for health care professionals, improving access to palliative care for patients at all stages of illness, and advancing evidence-based practice in palliative medicine. Fischberg has published and spoken nationally on these topics.
 
He currently serves on the board of directors for Kokua Mau, Hawai`i’s award winning hospice and palliative care organization, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Fischberg has been recognized for excellence in both teaching and patient care. In 2007, he was selected The Queen’s Medical Center’s Outstanding Physician of the Year.
