WHAT: University of Hawaiʻi President Wendy Hensel visited the UH Māui College on her statewide tour of 10 UH campuses and five education centers in her first 90 days.

- The visit started with a traditional Hawaiian protocol ceremony, welcoming Hensel to the campus, followed by a meeting with the Lauʻulu Council, which represents Native Hawaiian faculty and staff
- Hensel then visited marketing, dental hygiene, art, ceramics and nursing classes, speaking with the students and faculty, and touring the facilities.
- Lunch meeting with student, faculty and staff leadership
- An open campus forum attended by 80 people
- Reception with community, business leaders and alumni
- Hensel was asked a variety of questions at the meetings and forum, on topics that included her vision for UH Maui College, the threat to federal funding, student housing, mental health services, concerns about online learning overtaking in-person courses, expanding four-year program offerings and the challenges of hiring instructors and faculty due to pay.
- 2,992 students enrolled at UH Maui for the 2024-2025 academic year, with enrollment increasing by 12% in the last two years
- It is the only UH community college that specifically serves the residents of more than one island (Maui, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi)
- UH Maui College offers associateʻs and bachelorʻs degrees and certificates, and prepares students for high-demand careers in cybersecurity, culinary arts, automotive technology, healthcare and more.
