WHAT: Day one of three-day "Hawaiʻi Kuʻu Home Aloha" summit (HKHA) aimed at promoting racial healing and reflection that will include commemorations of the 131st anniversary of the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom and the 8th annual National Day of Racial Healing

WHEN: Tuesday, January 16–Thursday, January 18 

WHERE: Hawaiʻi Hall lawn and McCarthy Mall, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

WHO: UH Mānoa Native Hawaiian Place of Learning Advancement Office 

HKHA highlights include:

  • January 16: Oli (chant)/mele (song) workshop, 9 a.m. and historical walk, 10:15 a.m., Hawaiʻi Hall lawn, McCarthy Mall 
  • January 17: Ceremony to honor Queen Liliʻuokalani/Hawaiian Kingdom overthrow and Martin Luther King, Jr, noon, Queen Liliʻuokalani Center for Student Services
  • January 18: Racial healing keynote: Dr. Gail Christopher and Kumu Hula Kekuhi Kealiʻikanakaʻoleohaililani, 6:30 p.m., Kennedy Theatre
