Ruth Bingham, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa faculty specialist, received the Carol Baffi-Dugan Award for Service from the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP), a membership organization dedicated to serving the needs of the health professions advisor. The leadership award acknowledges Bingham’s NAAHP presidency, board service and selfless work on behalf of its western association. She is the first UH faculty member to receive the honor.
Bingham is director of the advising center for the College of Arts and Humanities and the College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature. She has set high standards of excellence for the center and its outstanding team, incorporating best practices garnered, in part, from her involvement with NAAHP and the western association. Bingham’s sound, reasoned guidance and expertise make the center a campus gem.
“I am touched and humbled to receive the Carol Baffi-Dugan Award,” said Bingham. “I accept it on behalf of the many dedicated NAAHP and (western association) volunteers who also gave countless hours from their busy lives to position our organizations for future success.”
She added that “students often enter healthcare professions with excellent skills provided them by their solid liberal arts education. Advising can unleash many opportunities and I am happy to play a small role in those journeys.”
