The public is invited to join the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo for its inaugural Holiday Lava Run/Walk on Saturday, December 6. The 5K course is designed to give participants of all ages the chance to explore the UH Hilo campus in a family-friendly, festive run/walk. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on the Campus Center Plaza, with the race kicking off at 8 a.m.
Created by the UH Hilo Alumni and Friends Association in partnership with the UH Hilo Student Athlete Advisory Council, the event aims to bring students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members together.
“As a proud alumnus of UH Hilo, I am especially excited to serve as chair of this Holiday Lava Run,” said UH Hilo Alumni Board member Adams Agtarap. “We are diligently working with an amazing planning team and are looking forward to having as many people as possible to sign up and join us in this fun and festive event, showcasing the growth of UH Hilo.”
The run/walk will also feature a holiday costume contest and a health and fitness fair with music, prizes and vendor booths.
Registration is $30. The entry fee includes a limited edition t-shirt, water, snacks and a race bag. Teams must have a minimum of four participants.
