Cross country athlete

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa women’s cross country freshman Emilie Kirk Langschwager was named Big West Athlete of the Week after her first collegiate victory at the Hawaiʻi Pacific University Invitational on October 8.

Kirk Langschwager took victory in the 6k race at Kahuku Golf Course, finishing over a minute ahead of everyone else in the field with a time of 22:10.00. Kirk Langschwager is the first Hawaiʻi runner to be named Big West Athlete of the Week since 2021.

Kirk Langschwager has been the top UH finisher in each of the last three meets and has finished in the top seven in all four meets she has competed in, including a pair of runner-up finishes and a win.

She started her collegiate career with a runner-up finish in the Big Wave Invitational before following with another second-place finish at the Mountain Regional Preview. Kirk Langschwager then placed No. 7 at the Charles Bowles Invitational, running the fourth-fastest 5k in program history with a 17:27.00.
