Vance Roley, dean of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s Shidler College of Business, is a recipient of the Most Admired Leaders award by Pacific Business News (PBN). Roley is one of 27 awardees that span a range of industries, including education, nonprofits, health care and real estate.
According to PBN, the awards “recognize exceptional executives who have made significant contributions in their companies and their communities.”

I’m proud of our strong alumni network and also the incredible team of talented and dedicated professionals I work with at the college. Together, we’re committed to providing a supportive environment for our students while they complete their collegiate experience and then continuing to engage and support them as they take on leadership roles in Hawaiʻi and beyond.”
Roley joined the Shidler College of Business as dean and was named First Hawaiian Bank Distinguished Professor of Leadership and Management in 2005. Prior to that, Roley was acting dean and professor of finance at the University of Washington. Roley also previously served as an assistant vice president and economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
Roley earned his PhD and MA degrees in economics from Harvard University, and his BA in economics and statistics from the University of California, Berkeley.
The awardees will be recognized at an event on November 9, at the ʻAlohilani Resort Waikīkī Beach. The Most Admired Leaders award was formerly known as the Business Leadership Hawaiʻi awards.
