Kamaka Hepa playing basketball

Former University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa basketball player Kamaka Hepa will play for the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2023 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The Pelicans officially announced its roster July 3 with the 6-foot-10-inch stretch forward earning one of 13 spots on their summer roster.

Hepa completed his two-year career with the Rainbow Warriors this past spring after transferring from the University of Texas. The native of Utqiagvik, Alaska started all 60 games he appeared in at UH and was a team captain both seasons. In his final collegiate season in 2022–23, he averaged 11.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and buried 67 3-pointers on 39% shooting, en route to earning all-Big West honorable mention.

Before being picked up by New Orleans, Hepa did individual pre-draft workouts with the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors.

All 76 games of the 11-day competition will air live on ESPN television networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPNews) or NBA TV.
