U H Manoa women's soccer players

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa women’s soccer goalkeeper Sophie Augustin and forward Amber Gilbert earned Big West weekly awards on September 12. Augustin received Defensive Player of the Week recognition and Gilbert was named the conference’s Freshman of the Week.

Augustin was stellar in the net in UH’s 2-1 win against Portland State on September 8, recording a career-high eight saves while her one goal allowed came on a penalty kick. The junior’s eight saves are the most by a Hawaiʻi player since October 10, 2019, when Alexis Mata recorded 10 saves. Augustin has gotten the win in each of her two starts in goal and currently leads the conference in save percentage, stopping 84.2% of shots on goal this season.

Gilbert continued to be a playmaker on the offensive end, scoring her second goal of the season while adding an assist in the victory over Portland State. The redshirt freshman put the Rainbow Wahine on the board in the 15th minute before dishing out an assist to Krista Peterson for the second goal, just 24 seconds later. She is also the only freshman in the Big West with multiple goals on the season.

This marks the first time since October 2019—when Mata was named Defensive Player of the Week—that a Hawaiʻi women’s soccer player has earned a Big West weekly honor. Additionally, Gilbert is the first Rainbow Wahine to be named Big West Freshman of the Week since the league began giving out the award in 2021.
