University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa women’s volleyball players Amber Igiede and Caylen Alexander both received individual Big West Conference (BWC) weekly awards on September 5.

Igiede earned her second career Big West Defensive Player of the Week honor and fourth overall BWC weekly award. Alexander was named Big West Freshman of the Week after notching her first career double-double on September 4 against No. 23 UCLA.

On offense, Igiede led the Rainbow Wahine with 47 kills (4.27 kills/set) and a .449 hitting percentage, while on defense she patrolled the net amassing 23 total blocks (2.09 blocks/set). In the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge opener against Texas State, Igiede tied her career-high with a match-high 20 kills while she was in on four blocks and four digs. Against West Virginia, she posted a match-high of 16 kills and nine blocks, which included a career-high tying three-block solos. In the tourney finale versus No. 23 UCLA, Igiede recorded 11 kills while tying her career-high with 11 blocks.

Alexander recorded 31 kills, 18 digs, three blocks and two service aces this past week. Against UCLA, she put down a match-high 18 kills and 11 digs—both career-highs. Alexander had nine kills and six digs against Texas State, as well as four kills and a dig against West Virginia. Overall, she is third on the team with 53 kills, and leads UH with seven service aces.
