Students at Windward Community College extended a heartfelt mahalo to all after the Meals with a Mission crowdfunding campaign, created in partnership with UH Foundation, recently exceeded its goal of $25,000.
Meals with a Mission was created in August 2020 to combat food insecurity and promote student success. During the fall 2020 semester, Chef Dan Swift and the Uala Leaf Café staff at Windward CC prepared thousands of free meals and served hundreds of students. In November 2020, to help to encourage more donations, Professor Emerita Jacquie Maly issued a challenge to encourage donations, offering to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000.
“Students will be better prepared to achieve their goals with the support from Meals with a Mission,” said Maly.
“Our goal is to feed as many students as possible throughout the semester and year, so they can focus on their studies, not their hunger,” said Swift.
Windward CC student Kimo Adams added, “We hope that these Meals with a Mission will continue so that we will be healthy and that we will be able to continue to move forward with our education here at Windward Community College.”
