Two University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo Vulcans helped their teams gain a split of matches against Chaminade University and Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU) over the weekend. Alexandria Parisian and David Mayser are this week’s Pepsi Athletes of the Week.

Parisian put together a pair of well-rounded volleyball matches as the Vulcans split on Chaminade (win) and HPU (loss). In the four-set win over No. 21 Chaminade, Parisian had 11 kills, a season-high four aces, 12 digs and 16 total points. In the five-set loss to the sharks, she had a 2021-high 14 kills, four block assists, a season-best 16 digs and 16 total points.

Mayser helped the Vulcans win their soccer season opener against Chaminade by scoring both goals in the 2-1 overtime victory. He played 58 minutes as the Vulcans came from behind to get the win. He scored on a penalty kick to tie the match, 1-1 and then he scored a golden goal. The Munich, Germany native was also named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
