University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Athletics Department is helping to fight hunger with a contactless, drive-thru food drive, in partnership with Hawaii Foodbank. The ‘Bows will be collecting food donations in the Stan Sheriff Center parking lot on October 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. UH coaches and student-athletes will be on hand to say mahalo.

Since Hawaiʻi‘s first statewide stay at home, work from home order on March 25, demand for food assistance has increased by nearly 60%. Hawaiʻi has the fifth highest increase in food insecurity in the United States. Community contributions will assist with meeting the nutritional needs of 1 in 6 Hawaiʻi residents already struggling with hunger.

Most needed items include:

  • Canned Proteins (such as tuna or chicken)
  • Canned Meals (such as stew, spaghetti or chili)
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Canned Fruits
  • Rice

There will be signage and attendants to help direct traffic.

Fans dropping off donations are asked to put the food items in the trunk of their vehicles and remain in their cars when they pull into the Stan Sheriff Center parking loop. A food drive volunteer will come to remove the donations from the trunk.

The food drive is part of UH Athletics’ ‘Bows Together theme that focuses on rebuilding and unifying our community and our department through areas such as health and safety initiatives, social justice reform, community service and economic development programs.
