The University of Hawaiʻi‘s new public service announcement, “Now is the time,” is aimed at encouraging prospective Hawaiʻi students to stay at home and attend one of UH‘s 10 campuses across the state. Thanks to Hawaii News Now, KITV, KHON and Hawaiian Telcom, as well as radio groups iHeart Media, SummitMedia Hawaiʻi and Pacific Media Group, the statewide PSAs will run from May 1 through mid July.

UH extended the deadline to apply for admissions to UH Mānoa, UH Hilo, UH West Oʻahu to August 1, 2020, the same as the seven UH community colleges. The extension gives prospective students additional time to consider attending UH under new uncertainties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 30-second spot highlights various UH students and showcases the wide array of options available at the 10 UH campuses ranging from trades to doctoral programs. The spot was produced in-house by the UH Communications Office.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is causing many students and families to reconsider the wisdom of going away to college this year, and we know that many citizens of Hawaiʻi will realize the wisdom of turning this crisis into the opportunity to advance themselves professionally through higher education,” said UH President David Lassner. “UH offers a wide range of superb higher education programs, online and through our ten campuses and education centers on every island. There is an affordable place at a UH campus for everyone.”

Data shows that people who earn a college degree or certificate earn more money over their lifetimes, are less likely to become unemployed in a recession and return to the workforce faster after a recession.

UH consists of seven community colleges, three four-year schools and six learning centers with locations on Hawaiʻi‘s six major islands offering online courses and degrees.
