Leeward Community College Theatre presents a dramatization of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland and Linera Lucas’ Through the Looking Glass in a production of Alice in Wonderland, directed by Betty Burdick, showing November 9–17.
Envisioning the occurrences in Wonderland as episodes from Alice’s dream, the production unsurprisingly takes a Jungian approach cluttering the stage with objects which are both literal and metaphorical representations of the workings of Alice’s mind. Nothing will be carried in from elsewhere by the actors, rather everything they need will be found somewhere in the piles of objects scattered about.
Given the psychological underpinnings of the show’s concept, it will come as no surprise that this production is not the Disney version of the story. Some familiar elements like the playing cards will not be present, while others like the Jabberwock will appear in all its terrible glory (beware the jaws that bite, the claws that catch!). That aside, there will not be any elements of the performance that are inappropriate for most family members.
