University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa softball senior Izabella Martinez earned the Big West Field Player of the Week award for the third time in her career after leading the Rainbow Wahine with a .556 batting average in a three-game series against UC Riverside, April 4–5. Martinez came through in the clutch with a two-run single in the series finale to help lead UH to its third series win.
Martinez extended her hitting streak to nine games, going 5-for-8 with a double against the Highlanders. In the series opener, she went 2-for-3 with a walk, followed by a 1-for-2 performance with a walk in game two. In the rubber game, she hit 2-for-3 and delivered a clutch two-run single in the seventh inning to tie the game, leading UH to its third walkoff win of the year.
Martinez leads UH with a .368 overall batting average (42-for-114) and a .413 average in conference (19-for-46). She also has team-highs in hits (42), doubles (10) and walks (21), and has tallied a team-best nine multiple-hit games.
Martinez is the second Rainbow Wahine to receive the honor this season, joining Milan Ah Yat.
