The University of Hawaiʻi freshman quarterback Micah Alejado earned Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors following his record-breaking performance in UH’s 38-30 victory over New Mexico on November 30. Alejado was also named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 and the Manning Award’s “Stars of the Week.”
Alejado made his first career start with 469 passing yards and five touchdowns. Alejado also rushed for 54 yards on 10 carries and totaled 523 yards for total offense–the second highest total in FBS this season. Alejado set UH freshman records for passing yard and touchdowns in a game surpassing the 403 yard record in 2000.
Among FBS freshmen, his 469 passing yards and 37 completions are single-game highs this season. Alejado’s performance included nine passes of 20 plus yards and 273 passing yards with three touchdowns in the first half alone.
