For the first time ever, the University of Hawaiʻi women’s soccer team has been awarded Big West regular season champions. The Rainbow Wahine secured the conference regular season title and No. 1 seed in the Big West Championship tournament with a 2-1 win over UC Santa Barbara on October 27.

UH also clinched a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the Big West postseason. The team is set to host both semifinals and the championship match on November 7 and 10, at Waipiʻo Soccer Stadium.

“It’s been such a long road, with so much adversity to deal with this year,” said head coach Michele Nagamine. “I think our women have been so incredible in so many different ways. I’m just extremely proud of the team and absolutely tickled for them that they are the regular season champions.”

Fabiola Zamora and Nalani Damacion also took home Big West weekly honors with Zamora receiving offensive player of the week, and Damacion claiming freshman of the week honors.

Zamora took home a conference weekly award for the first time in her career after scoring the game-tying goal and dishing out the assist on the game-winner. She then preserved the win in the final minute, making a save at the UH goal line on a corner kick.

Damacion earned Big West Freshman of the Week honors for a record fifth time this year and the second week in a row after scoring yet another game win. Damacion headed in the go-ahead score in the 83rd minute for her seventh goal of the season – all of them game-winners.
