Ten recipients of the 2024 University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Awards were recognized on October 26, during the Rainbow Warriors victorious Homecoming game against the Nevada Wolf Pack. Honored for their contributions in teaching, research and service, the awardees were welcomed on-field at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex after the first quarter, joined by UH Mānoa Provost Michael Bruno and UH President David Lassner.
“A great university is made up of great people. The faculty, staff and students we honor this year represent some of the best of the best. We are so proud of them, and we are so thankful to have the opportunity to recognize them in front of so many supporters of the university,” Bruno said.
Donald Reid Womack, chair of the Department of Music and recipient of the Board of Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research, was appreciative to share the experience with his son.
“It’s really nice to take this moment, in the middle of the game, to recognize the work of faculty. I’m grateful to be part of it, especially since my son got to be here with me,” Womack said. “Thanks, UH Mānoa, for this honor. And Go Bows!”
Nalani Minton, director of the ʻIKE AO PONO program at the School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene and recipient of the UH Mānoa Presidential Award for Outstanding Service, shared her excitement.
“It was exciting to be recognized as educators at the Homecoming Game surrounded by the UH ʻohana, community members and families, all cheering the Rainbow Warriors on to win against Nevada,” she said.
The awardees included: Nicole Reyes, Stephanie Teves, Benjamin Shappee, Malte Stuecker, Womack, Manu Kaʻiama, Louis Bousquet, Elina Hamilton, Nālani Minton and Jonna Eagle.
Bruno aims to make this recognition an annual tradition at the UH Mānoa Homecoming game.
The UH Mānoa Awards honor UH Mānoa faculty, staff and students from diverse fields for their efforts and contributions. A formal ceremony for the awardees, hosted by Lassner and Bruno, was held earlier in the year at Kennedy Theatre.
