Frogfish blending into coral

This week’s UH News Image of the Week is from Daniela Escontrela, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa PhD candidate in marine biology.

Escontrela shared, “I am doing my PhD in Marine Biology at UH. While doing a research dive and looking for cushion stars (my study species) I happened along this amazing frogfish. These fish are amazing at blending into their surroundings and if you zoom in on this picture, you can see the color and texture of their skin matches the coral around it.”
