University of Hawaiʻi law school student Joshua Faumuina has been appointed by Gov. Josh Green to the UH Board of Regents (BOR) for a two-year term as the board’s student regent. Green made the announcement on June 28.

Faumuina earned an associate of science in natural science from Kapiʻolani Community College in 2016, a bachelor of arts in classics from UH Mānoa in 2022 and expects to receive his juris doctor from the UH Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law in 2026. He has supported several National Science Foundation and Title III grants at Kapiʻolani CC since February 2020.

“I’m really excited,” said Faumuina. “I’ve been a UH student for over a decade so I’m excited to have a hand in changing some of the things that I’ve noticed, and also being a vocal representation for students on the Board.”

Though the state Senate must confirm the appointment, Faumuina officially began serving his term on July 1.
