University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa left-handed pitcher Randy Abshier earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District recognition for his efforts on the field and in the classroom. Abshier is just the sixth player in UH history to earn CSC academic all-district honors.
To be eligible to receive CSC Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 while pitching at least 25.0 innings. Abshier earned his undergraduate degree in sociology in May.
He ended the season on a roll, posting a 0.36 ERA in his final four games giving up just two runs (one earned) on 11 hits with 23 strikeouts over 25.1 innings during that stretch. Abshier worked 6.1 innings or longer in three of those four starts and earned the win in three of those four appearances. He finished the year 5-4 with 90 strikeouts to just 24 walks in 15 starts on the mound. He posted an ERA of 4.00 in a team-leading 81.0 innings pitched. Abshier also earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season.
