Randy Abshier and Big West pitcher of the week graphic

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa pitcher Randy Abshier capped off his collegiate career by earning Big West Pitcher of the Week honors on May 27.

In his final outing as a Rainbow Warrior, the senior worked eight innings and struck out eight while holding Cal State Fullerton to just a run on three hits with just one walk. Abshier turned in the longest outing of the year by a UH Mānoa pitcher and retired the final 12 batters he faced to earn the weekly honor for the second time this year and the third time in his career.

Abshier ended the season with a 0.36 ERA in his final four games giving up just two runs (one earned) on 11 hits with 23 strikeouts over 25.1 innings during that stretch. He worked 6.1 innings or longer in three of those four starts and earned the win in three of those four appearances.

He finished the year 5-4 with 90 strikeouts to just 24 walks in 15 starts. He posted an ERA of 4.00 in a team-leading 81 innings pitched.
