Alex Giroux and Pitcher of the Week graphic

After spinning five perfect innings out of the bullpen in University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s win over CSUN on May 3, Alex Giroux earned Big West Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in his career.

The junior set down all 15 batters he faced out of the bullpen after entering the game with UH up 3-2 in the fifth inning to earn his fifth win of the season. Giroux ended with a line of five innings pitched with a season-high eight strikeouts.

Giroux preserved a one-run lead over the final five innings against one of top hitting teams in the Big West by becoming the first UH pitcher to retire at least 15 straight batters since 2021.

Giroux was dominant from the fifth through seventh innings, punching out six straight Matador batters over that span to keep UH up by one. He threw a first-pitch strike to 14 of the 15 batters he faced to pick up his second career relief win when pitching five innings or longer.

The Rainbow Warriors are tied for the longest active winning streak in the nation at eight games and host UC Riverside in a three-game series May 9–12.
