The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo women’s tennis team was chosen as the PacWest Team of the Week.
UH Hilo was the final PacWest team to begin its season and has done so in impressive fashion with two road victories. The Vulcans held on for a 4-3 victory over Dominican on February 24, 4-3 and then topped Stanislaus State on February 25, 6-1. Against the Penguins, who came into the match with a 4-0 record, the Vulcans dropped the doubles point and lost matches on singles courts 1 and 2. They rallied back, with straight-sets victories on court 3 (Hikari Osaki), court 4 (Satoho Toriumi) and court 5 (Julia Barden). Hana Hofmanova then prevailed on court 6 in three sets over Astrid Craig, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Against the Warriors, UH Hilo won on all courts except No. 1 singles.
