University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa baseball player Randy Abshier was named Big West Pitcher of the Week after his dominant complete-game shutout of Long Beach State University on April 22 at the Les Murakami Stadium.

Abshier, a senior left-handed pitcher, turned in one of the best efforts on the mound in recent program history, giving up just two hits over nine shutout innings with nine strikeouts and only one walk against Long Beach State in a 2-0 win. He is the first Rainbow Warrior to toss a complete-game shutout since Logan Pouelsen in March 2018, and is the only Big West pitcher to throw a shutout this year.

He faced just four batters above the minimum and set Long Beach State down in order in five of the nine innings, retiring the final 10 batters of the game. On the season, Abshier is 4-1 with a 3.33 ERA and 44 strikeouts to 18 walks over 48.2 innings pitched. He has started a game on all 10 weekends this year, and has worked into the fifth inning in each of his last seven starts.

Abshier is the second UH pitcher to earn conference pitcher of the week honors this year, following Harry Gustin, who was recognized on March 27 after throwing seven shutout innings against Tulane University.

The Rainbow Warriors will head out on the road for the next two weeks, starting with a non-conference game against California Baptist University on April 25.
