University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa men’s volleyball players Dimitrios Mouchlias and Guilherme Voss were named Big West Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, after leading the Rainbow Warriors to a two-match series sweep of California State University, Northridge (CSUN), March 24–25.
The award is Mouchlias’ third Big West weekly award this season and fifth of his career. For Voss, it is his second defensive award this season and fifth of his career. Overall, UH has received six player of the week awards and four defensive player of the week awards this season.
Mouchlias, a junior opposite, averaged 3.50 kills per set, hitting .500 in a pair of straight-set wins over CSUN. He also averaged 1.50 blocks and 1.00 digs per set in the series. In the opener, he had eight kills, hitting .467 with three digs and four blocks. He followed with a match-high 13 kills, hitting .522 with three digs and a career-high tying five blocks.
Voss, a junior middle blocker, tallied 11 total blocks in the series for an average of 1.83 blocks per set. He also averaged 1.83 kills per set, hitting .526 with only one attack error in 19 attempts. He had five blocks in the opener and six in the rematch and helped the Rainbow Warriors to a total of 23 blocks in the series.
This week, the team returns to California for another two-match Big West series at UC Santa Barbara (UCSB), March 31–April 1 at the UCSB Thunderdome.
